I am a psychiatrist in private practice in a south Kansas City suburb called Overland Park. I attended Kansas University where I received a B.A. in English Literature and Psychology. I graduated from Kansas University Medical School in 1988 and did my internship in the Department of Psychiatry. I finished my residency in Topeka, Kansas (where I was born) at the Menninger Clinic. I have held staff psychiatry positions at Topeka State Hospital and Bert Nash Mental Health Center. I have been in private practice since 1999.
I was introduced to DBT by Ronda Reitz, Ph.D. when I worked at Bert Nash Mental Health Center. In 1996, when at the American Psychiatric Association meeting in San Diego, I attended a day long workshop with Marsha Linehan. This is also where I met Ivan Goldberg who has been a mentor over the years. Since then I have attended three DBT workshops. I have had a DBT group since 2000. The handouts on this website have been distributed at these groups.
