I am a psychiatrist in private practice who has expertise treating anxiety, depression, manic depression, attention deficit disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, and borderline personality disorder as well as many other psychiatric conditions. I graduated from University of Kansas in 1980 with a degree in English literature. I graduated from the University of Kansas medical center in 1988 and did my internship at the University of Kansas Department of psychiatry in 1989. I graduated from the Karl Menninger school of psychiatry in 1992. I became board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 1997 and recertified in 2007.
I have held staff psychiatry
positions at Topeka State Hospital and Bert Nash Mental Health Center. I
have been in private practice since 1999.
Group therapy has been one of the most rewarding aspects of psychiatric treatment because I get to watch patients get better and help one another in their treatment. When ever I put my patients together in a group I can help them help each other.
I was introduced to DBT by
Ronda Reitz, Ph.D. when I worked at Bert Nash Mental Health Center. In
1996, when at the American Psychiatric Association meeting in San Diego, I
attended a day long workshop with Marsha Linehan. This is also where I
met Ivan Goldberg who has been a mentor over the years. Since then I
have attended three DBT workshops. I have had a DBT group since 2000. The handouts on this website have been distributed at these
groups.
