Rogers Cemetery
Northwestern, New York
The Rogers Cemetery is located on Waffle Road about a half mile west of the small community of Hillside, New York, just north of Webster Hill Road. See the map at bottom of the page. If you plan to visit, make sure you check in with the apparent property owner at the northwest corner of Webster Hill Road and Waffle Road. He's a nice gentleman... but he has a big black lab.
February 24, 1954, Rome Daily Sentinel: "Francis Rogers was an early settler of Western and a native of Montgomery County in New York State. His wife was Christine [sic] Cline. They had five sons, William, John, Joseph, James and Adam, and four daughters, Kate, Amelia, Esther and Jane. The Rogers family was prominent for at least a century." The Sentinel identified Martha's name as Christine. I believe this is wrong. They also left out a son George Rogers who was identified in Francis' will. The Waldo Family Genealogy mentions that the Rogers Family settled in Western in 1830.

Map below shows location of Rogers Cemetery north of Rome, NY, off NY46. Waffle Road is about one-half mile west of Hillside, NY, on Webster Hill Road.
The J. Arthur May family (Dad, Mom, me and my four siblings) lived for 30 years on Teugega Point, the yellow area that protrudes into the south end of Lake Delta just above the "46" at the bottom of the map. It was not till recently, thanks to the Genealogical & Historical Research Web Site for Oneida County, New York, that we were surprised to discover that our ggg and gggg grandparents were buried just down the road. Thanks, Kevin. Thanks, DAR.
Waffle Road is a dirt road canopied in trees during the summer. Below shows the entrance to Waffle Road in the fall. Look for the sign on the north side of the road. Even in dry weather I would not want to take anything but a high clearance vehicle up the road. The cemetery is a quick five minute walk.
The picture below is from the top of the hill seen in the previous picture. The cemetery is on the treelined ridge extending to the left. Rogers markers are at the end of the ridge on the left side of the picture. Waffle Road proceeds north on the right side of the picture.
A full listing of people buried in the Rogers Cemetery can be found on the Genealogical & Historical Research Web Site for Oneida County, New York. Click here for the list.
