Here is a listing of the layouts that are anticipated to participate in the Prairie Rail Classic 2004.  Click on the links to get additional information about the layout and the layout host, and a discussion about what to expect during an operating session.

The list of participating layouts is subject to change.

Joe Kasper's Burlington Northern Kaw Valley (N) What can we say?  It's a Kasper creation!  Operation so real you'll think you deserve a paycheck. Personally, I just come for the food.

Mike Fyten's Kaw Valley Railroad (S) A gorgeous S-scale railroad featuring the burro!  Bid for the Lawrence Job and you'll be a happy camper.  Plus you can railfan while you use the bathroom!

Dave Acheson's Santa Fe  (HO) Front Range railroading at its finest.  You'll get a Rocky Mountain High running this layout.  Bid for the coveted Coors Job or run one of the locals and see the layout from end to end!

Rick McClellan's Frisco (HO)  The Frisco railroad in Kansas City and beyond.  Three yards to run, inbound and outbound trains to operate, this new and huge railroad is making its Prairie Rail debut in 2004.

Stephen Priest's Santa Fe Emporia Subdivision (HO) Are you kidding me?  This awesome layout is making its Prairie Rail debut in fully-scenicked, super-detailed condition.  A former ATSF/BNSF engineer and graphics artist applies his railroad knowledge and modeling skills to bring southern Kansas to life!

Keith Jordan's Santa Fe  (HO) Pre-war operations on the Surf Line.  Thoroughly researched and terrifically executed, this layout presents San Diego railroading as America prepares for war.  (HO).

Mike Tomei's Santa Fe  (HO)  Beautiful Scenery and excellent modeling make this Lawrence Railroad a true gem.  If you ask nice, maybe Mike will show you his race car!

Doug Hitchcock's Rio Grande Southern (HOn3)  Featuring the Second District between Dolores and Rico, this layout is making its PrairieRail debut in 2002.

Bill Hirt's Chicago Burlington & Quincy (HO)  Bill is unflappable and his operating sessions are a reflection of his personality:  a little zany, a little wacky, and a lot on the wild side!  And he runs a Katy train!  Is there no end to this man's genius?

Bob Willer's Spokane, Portland & Seattle (HO)  Captures the spirit of Pacific Northwest Railroading!  Featuring some of Kansas City's finest scenery (out his living room picture window), this large railroad uses Timetable and Train Order operation to move trains through the Columbia River Gorge and pacific northwest.  So bring along your Condensed Code of Operating Rules Operations and let's turn on the clock!

Tom Manning's Clinchfield Railroad (HO)  Man, if you like coal-hauling railroads, then haul it on over to the Clinchfield.  The best of Virginia and Kentucky railroading.

John Breau's Great Northern, Butte Division (HO)  Dang, this layout is big!  Incorporating the best of timetable and train order operation, this layout is a treat to operate.  And the trains WILL run according to the schedule!

Bret Overholtzer's MKT, St. Louis Subdivision (N)  Hearken back to the early-80s, when disco was king, cell phones were the size of suitcases, and real railroad men wore cowboy hats instead of gimme hats.  Haul some grain or coal through central Missouri on the Katy's "North End".

Jim McCroskie's Chicago Burlington & Quincy (HO)  Hey, Bud!  Ooo, yeah, look at them there trains!  A finely detailed layout featuring trains from Omaha to Kansas City.  If there aren't enough train crews, we'll have to double up!

Doug Taylor's Pennsylvania and East Broad Top (HO and HOn3)  A John Armstrong track plan featuring Horseshoe Curve and Narrow Gauge action.  Look out for the snappers!  For the narrow-minded, there is the laid-back action on the East Broad Top.

Charlie Stapleton's Union Pacific (HO)  When Charlie isn't traveling the country, he can be found in his basement, handlaying track.  This layout features the best of UP railroading in Kansas.

Jim EuDaly's Chesapeake & Ohio (O scale).  Full blown CTC operation on a fully scenicked O-scale layout, located in it's own building.  Operations in O-scale...can anybody say heaven?

Mike Melichar's Camas Prairie (HO)  The MaGyver of Kansas City, Mike could turn chewing gum, bailing twine and styrofoam peanuts into a scale model of the Tehachapi Loop!  Ask him to demonstrate how to cut a 4x8 ft piece of plywood into fascia using his knee as a sawhorse and a sawzall.

Rob Biddison's Denver and Rio Grande Western, Denver Division (HO)  The man rides a Harley, drives race cars AND does model railroading?  It's the holy trinity of hobbies!

John Vandenberg's Denver and Rio Grande Southern, Hondo Division (HOn3)  Don't let John's mild manner fool you!  Inside, he's a bubbling cauldron of modeling mayhem!  Examine some excellent modeling while you run trains in the Colorado Rockies.  The dispatcher may let you run the Bumblebee!

Kevin Leyerle's "Katy in the 80's", Oklahoma Subdivision (HO) Two MKT layouts on one Prairie Rail!?  I love this country!  "Sooner" or later, you're gonna want to check out this fun railroad making its debut appearance on the operations tour.  Green Oklahoma railroading at its finest.

Chuck Hitchcock's Argentine Industrial Railway (HO)  Making its Prairie Rail debut in 2004, the AIDRY is industrial switching at it's finest.  Run the train over to the grain elevators and you keep busy for the duration of the session!

Floyd Brittian's Midland Valley Railroad Company Keep a sharp lookout for fallen flag power, as you could see anything running across the Midland Valley's rails.  Set in 1953 (August 2, to be exact) this railroad ran across Oklahoma, interchanging with several large and not-so-large railroads.
