Balancer setup

I balance my street tires but not my knobbies. However, I do not run rim locks.

Here are pictures of the setup I use. I am not going to take a wheel off, however!

The copper pipe is standar 1/2" and the fittings are 1/2 to 3/4 converters. The metal bar was scavenged from somewhere. The bearings are used in rollerblades. Readily available at sporting goods stores.

I use this because the grease and seals in the wheel bearings introduce a lot of rolling resistance. The setup I use has so little rolling resistance that you will never get the tire balanced well enough for it to not rotate to where the heavy spot is on the bottom.
