New Dimensions offers innovative projects for middle school and high school students that go beyond the introductory tour experience.   Projects are multi-disciplinary, take place over 10 – 20 hours at the museum, and align with Communication Arts, Social Studies and Fine Arts GLEs for both Kansas and Missouri. Collaboration between teachers of English, Social Studies, Speech, Art, and Technology is strongly encouraged.

Since 2006 New Dimensions has partnered with classes ranging from 6th – 12th grades from charter, public, and parochial schools, urban core to suburban.

For middle school and high school classes we offer to projects:

  • Visual to Verbal Explorations; Students explore, compare and contrast works of art  from the collections and create web pages from their writings.
  • Moving Explorations; Students respond to works from the Museum’s collections in the form of 3 – 5 minute videos.  Students write responses based on careful observation, which become scripts for narrations.  Soundtracks and still and moving images are edited together to form the videos in the computer lab at the Museum.

Teachers can choose from the following subjects for their projects:

  • Europe; 14th – 20th centuries (Teachers select specific, contiguous periods of European history to focus on.)
  • Modern and Contemporary; America from 1940’s to the present. (Teachers select specific decades of American history to focus on.)
