Commute Routes

Return Route: Work to Home

I live on the Kansas side and work in downtown KC. I usually take the Johnson County Transit bus to work and ride home. The buses have bike racks on them which works very well.
Ride Home: I ride from 10th and Main. I take Grand south to Pershing and then climb Kessler (pant!) and take the Penn Valley paths to Linwood. Then it's 31st across Broadway and S.W. Trafficway to Roanoke. I follow Roanoke to Wyoming. It's then south on Wyoming to 45th,  jog right and continue south to Westwood Lane.   There I cross Ward Parkway and up Rockhill (pant!) on the other side. Then it ´s right on Sunset Dr. and left on 52nd  to Belleview.   I stay on Belleview until it turns into Summit at 60th.  I then take Summit/Valley to Gregory.  I turn right on Gregory and cross the Ward Parkway and State Line intersections (stoplights) and then stay on 71st east to Belinder. It's then right on Belinder to 69th. I take 69th to Tomahawk.   I follow Tomahawk to 71st into Overland Park.   I stay on 71st until just after Metcalf.   Left at Sante Fe Dr. to 74th and then right on 74th to Conser (stoplight to get across 75th) cross 75th and stay on Conser until 79th.   Right on 79th to Grant, left on Grant to 85th.   Stay on 85th to Switzer and then south to home. 18 miles. Total time: 1hr., 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.

It's always good to be visible at night

Route to 6000 Lamar Bus Transit Area

Another route that I use, expecially in the Winter, early Spring and late Fall, is to ride to the Jounson County Bus Transit Area at the County Offices. I then use the bus bike racks to haul my bike to work and back. If the weather really turns lousy then I have the bus take me very close to home.
The Route: I ride north from my home to 85th. I take 85th to Grant and turn left (north) on Grant to 79th. I take 79 to Conser and then north across 75th to 74th. It's then east on 74th to Sante Fe Dr. North on Sante Fe Dr.to 71st. I continue on 71st until I get to Lamar and then I take Lamar north to the transit area.

One variation of this route is to take the bike trail that runs parallel to S.M. Parkway to 65th from Metcalf to Lamar. There's a stoplight at 65th and Metcalf. To take this route in, don't turn on 71st from Sante Fe Dr. but continue on to 65th and turn there.
