THE BOYNTON FAMILY, by John Farnham Boynton and Caroline Harriman Boynton, 1897
William Boynton was born in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England in 1606. He came to Rowley, Massachussetts, with Rev. Ezekiel Rogers, in the Autumn of 1638. He was assigned a lot on Bradford Street, to which he subsequently added largely by purchase in various parts of the country. He gave a farm to each of his children in his lifetime, and the remainder of his estate to his wife Elizabeth Jackson, whom he brought with him.In records he was called a "planter" and a "weaver". but in the deeds he is called a "tailor."
He taught the school from 1656 to 1681, and was probably the first person employed as a schoolmaster, in the town.
