Henry TOWNSEND

He had 4 children by his first wife, & apparently none by his second wife. His first wife was a cousin of John Winthrop, Governor of New England. His estates were encumbered before the death of his father, and he had to sell Bracon-Ash to Sir Edmund Riche in l599. He then moved to Gedding, Suffolk, where he lived on the charity of friends and relatives. Tradition says that this gentleman was defrauded of the proceeds from the sale of his substantial property. He was buried at Gedding, Suffolk, England.

Simon lived in Charlestown l660; Malden l668; Watetown l685/6; & Framingham l687. He moved to Sherborn & died there in l694. He was a grantee of Quisigamong or Worcester before l674. They were turned from their purpose of building a town there due to the Indian trouble. He is listed as a proprietor of Maldon. About l687 Mr. Danforth made known his plans for disposing of his lands by long leases. The Mellen family moved from Watertown & settled on Danforth's land in l687 or l688. They took possession of the lands west of Farm Pond - later known as Mellen's Neck. Simon Mellen signed his lease as yeoman & his son Thomas also signed with him. The lease was for 999 years & was to pass or to his heirs. Danforth Farms became Framingham, Mass.
