Was one of the original proprietors & founders of Danbury, Ct. Was nominated for freeman in Norwalk, Ct. 1667. He lived to an advanced age.

He was a corporal in the American Revolution. ROLLS AND LISTS OFCONNECTICUT MEN IN THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION lists him in Tyron's Invasion as a part of Lt. James Seelyes Co., l6th Regiment. With them, he was on the expedition to Fairfield, Danbury, and Norwalk July l779. This was during the battle when Danbury, Ct. was burned by the British & all but the probate records were destroyed. There is also listed under the "Short Levies" pay Aug.-Dec.l78l in
the Conn. 2nd Reg. under Col. Swift a Matthew Barnum. Whether this is him or another family member is unknown since his rank is not listed. There is a chapter in THE HISTORY OF DANBURY, CONNECTICUT, on this battle in Danbury.Sources:
