From Bernadine Teague
(There were 2 William McLaughlins in Camden Co. at this time. The other one was murdered & many people get the two mixed up. The one murdered was not our William McLaughlin as the tombstone testifies. Also the 1900 census. William McLaughlin is found in the 1860 Montgomery Co., Mo. census just before he enlists for the Civil War. He is living with a family named Beatty. I found an 1850 Census of Callaway Co., Mo. next door to Montgomery Co. with a William McLaughlin his age as a young man living with another family & being trained as a blacksmith. There are also guardianship records in Callaway Co. for a William McLaughlin that would fit his age. Shirley has that he was born in Miller Co., Mo. & there is a William McLaughlin there & also one in guardianship papers but the dates & ages don't match. Nothing is certain at this point.)

LINN CREEK REVEILLE VOL. 27 #50 APRIL 27, 1906
O.B.
William McLaughlin, an old and highly respected citizen of Camden County, died at his home eight miles east of Linn Creek, April 13, 1906. The deceased was born in Miller County, Mo., in 1833. He enlisted in the U.S. army at the age of 28 and served three years and four months in the 24th Mo. Infantry olunteers. After the way he came to Camden County where he spent the remainder of his life. He was married to Sarah Edwards April 25th, 1875. To them were born eleven children, nine of whom are still living. Uncle Mack as he was called, was acknowledged by all who knew him to be a good man. He was for many years a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and ministers of all denominations were welcomed to his home. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. It seems hard to give him up, but he has been released from suffering and has found rest from the labors of life. God grant that we may meet him in the home above. Funeral services were conducted by the undersigned at Freedom Church, April 14, 1906, and he was buried in the cemetery near the church in the presence of a large congregation of relatives and friends. Sources:
Shirley Kohlstaedt for Silas, Jane and children's birth dates and places; death dates for all but son Eli, and marriage date for Sarah Edwards to Wm McLaughlin, and spouse names of children that married. Shirley is the great granddaughter of Silas and Jane Edwards.

Name of parents from Lorene Scott. Other new/different facts from Lorene were surname of Eli's wife, and year of 1849 for Eli's birthyear. Lorene got much of her data from book THE BURCH TREE by Beryl Estelle Burch Hewitt written in 1986.

Lorene Scott via Bethel: Silas had a hairlip but always wore a beard and mustache so it wasn't noticeable

James EDWARDS

Died before 1854 census in IOWA

Kittie Ann EDWARDS

From Lorene Scott via Bethel:
Kitty Ann was born deaf, but she could use hand signals to talk, and she helped keep house and loved children. When she was about 30 her periods stopped and she developed epilepsy seizures and then died a couple years later

On 1880 Camden Co MO Census she's listed as deaf

Buried in Freedom Cemetery, Camden Co., Mo. with her parents.

Lydda Jane EDWARDS
