Lonnie Shoemaker received this information today from a Green researcher. Hope it's of help to someone.
My Grandparents had told me and I had made notes, (in 1948 when I got my original info) that Reynolds Green was a full blooded Indian. He was a baby that was lost off of the back of a wagon when the Indians were moved, by the US Army, out of the area in which they lived. He was found by a man by the name of Preston Green. He took thebaby to his home and the family raised him as their son. He was nicknamed "Run." Reynolds Green is listed in the 1850 Macon County Census as being born in Virginia and being 49 years old. He would have been born about 1801. It also Lists his wife Jane, 47, as being born in Kentucky in about 1803. Four children are also listed: Lewis, 19; George, 12; Nancy, 9; and Abraham, 25; all are listed as being born in Missouri. In the 1860 Chariton County Census it lists Renolds (their spelling) Green, 60, born in Virginia; Jane, 56, born in Kentucky and George W., 22, born in Missouri. In the Hammock (We have always called it Dodson) Cemetery book, I found: I have added information in parenthesis. By the way these stones appear to be home made and are very difficult to read. Reynolds Green died January 25, 1882, age 83 years, 9 months (born about April 1798)Jannie, Wife of RG died October 30, 1874 age 74 years (the book says BG but I know it is RG. This venerable gentleman comes of mixed Virginia and Tennessee parentage, and was himself born in Wayne County Kentucky in April 1806. He grew up on a farm and received a common-school education.
At the age of 19 he left his boyhood’s home and sought in Randolph County Missouri a new field for the gratification of his hopes and ambitions.
In a few years he removed to Macon where he still lives. He has always been engaged in agricultural pursuits and now owns 110 acres of land, 100 under good fence. He raises grass, corn and tobacco.
Mr Green owes his possessions to his own unaided efforts, and now enjoys in peaceful tranquility the fruits of his toil. He has been presented by the old settlers of Macon county as a token of respect to the oldest housekeeper in the county, with a cane, cup and saucer, and silver.
