His residence as Henry/Patrick Co., Va.; Wayne Co., Ky.

Wayne Co., Ky. census reports, l8l0-l820
Marriages & Vital Records, Wayne Co., Ky. l80l-l860 Vol. I compiled byJune Baldwin Bork.Margaret Austin notes:
Patrick Co., Va. is a mountainous, beautiful, thinly-populated area lodged between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the North Carolina border. Blue Mountain is in Patrick Co. Stuart, the county seat, with a population now of less than l,000 people is the largest town in the country. There is relatively level farmland around Stuart and elsewhere in the valleys created by the many streams that course through the county. Beautiful as it is, I saw little evidence of tourism and certainly not around Stuart.
The county was formed in l79l from Henry County. Later, parts of it were cut off when Grayson and Carroll Counties were formed so that Patrick now is smaller than when our ancestors lived there.
The first court was in June l79l, and several Hammons and William and Robert Green are mentioned in the first Order Book. William Green was mentioned frequently as processioning lands. To procession was to walk (or ride?) the boundries of a land holding and confirm that they corresponded to the grant or deed. This was done to prevent, or at times to resolve, boundry disputes between neighbors.
In Sept. l796, William received $6.24 bounty payment for 3 young wolfheads and $7 for l4 days of processioning lands. Wolf hunting paid better than spending the day walking.

William Greene, b. 1762, near Fredericksburg, Va.; died 1835, Wayne Co.,Ky.; served in Rev. War; m. ___ Marshall. DAR No. 47 998.
Is this the same William Green? In the book A CENTURY OF WAYNE COUNTY, KENTUCKY, William Green is listed as having a headright grant between the years 1800-1810.
The following notes come from Margaret Austin
Occupation: Planter
Residence: Patrick Co., Va., Surry Co., N.C.; Wayne Co., Ky.; Warren Co., Tn.Death: John Sr. died between the l820 Warren Co., Tn., census, probably taken in the summer, and 9 March l823, when a survey was made for the heirs of John Hammons, and Grant #l583l was issued after a caveat filed by William Scott was dismissed by the Wayne Co., Ky. Court. See Ky.deeds.
DAR National #620240, John Hammon(d)s gives an incorrect genealogy. This John Hammons was not the John Hammonds of Montgomery Co., Va., as shown on the application. A correction was sent to the DAR, Washington, D.C.,on l2 August l995. The same information was also sent to the SAR,Louisville, Ky., which had an incorrect registration #55942, and a copy was sent to the Warren Co. Public Library, McMinnville, Tn. 37ll0, for their surname file.
As of late l997, verification of correction had not been received from either the DAR or SAR.
There could be more children of either the first or second marriage; the ones listed are the ones I am confident of currently.
First Marriage - there is an elusive William Hammons who appears briefly in proximity to John Sr. in Surry Co., N.C. A William also appears in Warren Co., Tn., who may or may not be the same person. The Surry Co. William could also be a brother or cousin. Little has been done to track him.
