HIESTAND FAMILY OF PAGE CO., VA.
Daniel Hestand was born in 1770 in Frederick (now Page) Co., Va., and moved to Washington Co., Tn., about 1784, where he married Elizabeth Mosier, daughter of Anthony Mosier, about 1793. He perhaps moved to Green Co., Ky., about 1796, and to Cumberland (now Monroe) Co., Ky., about 1799, settling on McFarland's Creek. He was a farmer, hatte, & brickmaker, and spoke English with a heavy German accent. It is difficult to learn much about him because of the destruction of the Monroe Co. records.
Hestand received 3 grants from the state of Ky. for land in Monroe Co., Ky., and Jackson (now Clay) Co., Tn.; on Oct. 22, 1825, he received 100 acres on Proctor's Creek, and on July 2, 1837, 75 acres on Knob and Proctor's Creeks in Jackson Co., and on Jan. 13, 1826, he received 50 acres on McFarland's Creek in Monroe Co.
He joined the Mill Creek Baptist Church at Tompkinsville, Ky., on Feb. 8, 1800; he was a member of the McFarland's Creek Church from 1827 to 1841. He represented it in the Baptist Ass. in 1827-34, 1836, and 1840; in 1829 he was sent to help the Sulphur Church; in 1830 he prepared a rule of church decorum; in 1833 he was appointed to invite a new minister; in 1839 he was sent to request help from the Mill Creek and Cumberland Churches. In 1841 he & his second wife Polly, whom he had probably married shortly before, were dismissed from the church at their own request. He died Dec. 31, 1856, in Monroe Co., Ky.
The children of Daniel & Elizabeth (Mosier) Hestand were as follows:
John
Mary Magdalene
Margaret
Elizabeth
Abraham
Katherine
Daniel B.
Philip Mosier
Joshua Kelly
HIESTAND FAMILY OF PAGE CO., VA.
Jacob Hiestand was born about 1736 in Pennsylvania and lived in Orange (now Page) Co., Va., as early as 1743. About 1758 he married Maria Elizabeth Brumback, who was born Sept. 6, 1736 at Muesen, Germany, the daughter of John Brumback & Anna Juliana Kemper. In August, 1783, he sold James Breeding the land inherited from his father. Jacob Hiestand was drowned in 1795 when his canoe overturned in the Shenandoah River in Shenandoah (now Page) Co., Va. In 1798, his widow and children sold part of their lands to her son, John Hiestand, and to John Strickler, Jr. On Oct. 13, 1804, they settled Jacob's estate and moved to Fairfield Co., Ohio.
The children of Jacob Hiestand and Maria Elizabeth Brumback were as follows:
Jacob, born 1760
Abraham born Aug. 11, 1762
Mary born 1764
Elizabeth born 1766
Magdalene born 1768
John born May 6, 1772
Joseph born 1778
Samuel born March 3, 1781
HIESTAND FAMILY OF PAGE COUNTY, VA.
Mary Magdalene Hiestand was born about 1752 in Frederick (now Page) Co., Va., and married Dec. 5, 1773, to Andrew Gimlin, who on May 19, 1773, acquired 520 acres at the foot of Round Head Mountain on the drains of Stony Run and Little Hawksbill. On March 25, 1777, Andrew served as administrator of Frederick Gimlin and on May 22, 1777, for 100 lbs, he sold his 520 acre farm in what is now Page County to Thomas Newman.
Andrew and Molly Gimlin then moved to Lincoln (now Garrard) Co., Ky. where on Oct. 17, 1780, he received a grant of 400 acres for 2 (this maybe should be 200-ebt) lbs; he received another 400 acres for 160 lbs., and a third grant from the state of Virginia for 600 acres on the east side of Dix River for 240 lbs. on Sept. 1, 1782; some of these grants may have been overlapping. On Jan. 6, 1784, in Lincoln Co. Court, he straightened out a boundary line with James Barbour.
On June 20, 1785, Andrew and Molly Gimlin sold John Collier 184 acres of their lands for 411 lbs; on July 21, 1785, they sold James Ownsby 116 acres for 40 lbs; on Oct. 27, 1794, they sold 321 acres to James Smith for 300 lbs; on Jan. 23, 1802, they sold 95 acres to Benjamin Dunn for 100 lbs; on Dec. 16, 1803, they sold 221 acres on Dix River to Samuel Mullins for 442 lbs; and on Feb. 23, 1804, they sold 100 acres on the waters of White Oak Creek to Peter Heddick for 442 lbs.
In 1803, Andrew Gimlin was taxed on 200 acres on Dix River in Garrard Co and on 200 acres in Cumbeland Co., Ky.; he does not appear in the records after that time and probably died about 1804. His widow, Molly Gimlin, lived in Cumberland (now Monroe) Co., Ky., in 1810, and was taxed in Monroe Co. on 57 acres of land in 1820 and 1821, when she probably died.
