There's a section on the Conway family including the Eltonhead & Thacker familyNOTE:
There has so far appeared no proof that Edwin Conway is the son of Sir Edward Conway Viscount of Ragley though it has been assumed since he was known to have come from that area in England. "A tradition told by Mr. Conway Nutt states that two brothers named Conway, related to the Marquis of Hertford, were exiled to America for political reasons and came to Va." from VIRGINIA GENEALOGIES cited above. There were a Sir Edward Conway and Captain Thomas Conway who were members of the Va. Co. of London, 1609-1620.

The line from Martha Eltonhead to James Madison
Martha Eltonhead was christened 10 February 1628 at Saint Mary's in Prescot, Lancashire. Soon after she sailed for Virginia in 1645 she married Edwin Conway in Lancaster County, VA.
The Conways were living in Richmond County, VA, when their son Edwin Conway Jr. was born in 1653. On 21 May 1695 in Richmond County he married Elizabeth Thornton, daughter of Francis Thornton (1651-1726) who married Alice Savage 13 April 1674.
Martha Eltonhead's grandson Francis Conway was born 15 September 1696 in Richmond County. On 21 October 1717 he married Rebecca Catlett. He died in 1733 -- just two years after the future mother of President James Madison was born in Caroline County on 9 January 1731.
Eleanor Rose "Nelly" Conway was 18 when she married James Madison, father of the future president 13 September 1749. James Madison Jr. was born 5 March 1751. His mother died 11 February 1829 at Montpelier in Orange County, VA -- evidence of just how healthy it was to live just east of the Blue Ridge mountains.
Fourth President James Madison and his parents are buried on the grounds of Montpelier in Orange County, Virginia.Edwin Conway's grandson, Edwin Conway III son of Edwin Conway II, married Ann Ball, step-sister of Mary Ball who married Augustus Ball, Mother & Father of George Washington.
The estate passed to him. He made a genealogy chart of his family for the Lancashire Visitation Sept. 23, 1664. He states he was 82 yrs. at the time of making the chart. His christening date is before his birth date which he gives as 1582. Since there was a calendar change, it could be the christening date was 1581 & his birth date could have been the 1581 of the 2 yr. difference of 1581/1582.
Since I have Alice being born sometime around 1630, her death date of about 1625 could be incorrect or Alice's birth date estimate could be wrong.
He was in possession of Eltonhead in 1600 but died shortly thereafter.
He was an Examiner at the High Court of Chancery.
