"...Captain Edwin Hickman moved to Davidson County, Tenn. in l784-85. His oldest child Susan was born there in l786. He was killed by Indians 6 years later in l79l on the Duck River in Western Tennessee on a surveying mission."

He was a Capt. in the Rev. War where he served in Surry Co., N.C. Hickman Co., Tenn. is named after him.

Born Oct. l760 Albemarle or Culpeper Co, Va., died l79l, killed by Indians in what is now known as Hickman Co., Tenn; married 23 Sept. l78l Henry Co., Va. Elizabeth Jane Pryor. Edwin was the son of William Hickman, Sr. who lived for a while in Stokes Co., N.C. before moving to Tenn. As a resident of Surry Co. NC, Edwin served as a captain in the Revolutionary War in the regiment of Col. John Armstrong and in Col. Robert Lanier's regiment. He was in battles in Alamance Co., Whitsell's Mill and Guilford Court House. Information regarding his service is
taken from the pension record of his brother, Thomas Hickman. (Pension File #S-437l)
