John Williams

The first record of JOHN WILLIAMS in Lincoln Co., Ky. is in 1798 when he purchased 100 acres of land on Fryes Creek from Samuel Emmerson. His land was in Casey Co. when it was formed from Lincoln Co. in 1806. In 1814 he died leaving a will in Casey Co., Ky. naming his children as Lydia, Nancy, Betsy Douglas, George, Thomas, Isaac, Joel & Samuel as well as his wife Sally.

Received this copy of the will from Mrs. Lessley.

CHILDREN
OF
JOHN WILLIAMS
l744 l8l4
Va. Ky.

Order of births may be incorrect. Assuming from the will, I list them:

l. George may be the one who married 30-6-l8l6 Nancy Smith in Lincoln Co., Ky. Need proof. George died 26 Oct. l879. (LDSsays birth of George1795 ebt)
2. Thomas James b. 4 Mar. l776; d. Moniteau Co., Mo. 4 Aug. l845; married 23 Jan. l804 Jane Jones daughter of Evan & Miriam Jones. Jane b. 5 Dec. l784, d. 5 Dec. l853 Moniteau Co., Mo.
Enough evidence now collected to be certain beyond reasonable doubt that this was son of John.
3. Isaac married 8 Aug. l806 Lincoln County, Ky. Sally Floyd. (LDSgives birthdate for Issac as abt. 1789. LDS also gives the marriage location as PulaskiCo., Ky. ebt)
4. Elizabeth b. l774 Va.; married George Douglas l4 Nov. l795 in Wythe Co., Va. lived in Casey Co., Ky. after l800. George gave land for Mt. Olive Christian Church, Casey Co.
5. Samuel b. 22 Dec. l798; married l4 Oct. l8l9 Letitia Mason. In l820 Casey Co. census, moved to Edgar Co., Ill.
6. Lydia
7. Nancy married Lincoln Co. l3 Sept. l805 James Scott
8. Joel born l798? married Sally Mason l8 Nov. l829. In l840 Census Casey Co., after that whereabouts unknown.

There is no evidence in Kentucky records that John Williams of Wythe Co., Va. was a Revolutionay soldier. There is however a John Williams listed in Wythe Co. militia.

Thomas J. Williams. There is a debate among Missouri descendants as to whether the J. is Jefferson or James. Scythia said Jefferson. Her Bible said J. In l968 the grand-daughter of Isaac Lloyd, Thomas son, gave me a copy of Isaac's Bible. It says James & there are some small evidence in Ky. which seem to confirm this. Source: Mrs. Lessley

Thomas appears in l820 census Casey Co. p. 209, number & ages of children match exactly those in Cantlon record. l830 Casey Co., pg. 278 boys match, but girls are short. From will we have about concluded two may have died. l840 Morgan Co., Mo. he is listed. Moniteau was formed from parts of Morgan and Cooper Cos. l842. I doubt if he ever moved.

Casey County Land records show Thomas & Jane sold:
250 acres of land on Brush Creek l83l
50 acres of land on Carpenter Creek l835
94 l/2 acres of land on Carpenter Creek l836

This information was sent to me by Henry Wheeler who obtained it from Mrs. R.H. Lessley. She has a note stating that it was sent to her by Janet Cochran, Stanford, Lincoln, Ky. & Patty Black, Hustonville, Casey Co., Ky. both proven descendant of John Williams' daughter, Elizabeth Williams Douglas. Casey County was formed from Lincoln Co. l807.

An LDS file has his birthdate at 1758.

Isaac Williams

Information for Isaac's family supplied by Sue Maggie

Sally was daughter of Benjamin Floyd & Elizabeth Singleton.

Some information on Isaac's family supplied by Gary Williams,
B. F.'s birth was 4 Feb 1822. 24 Nov 1845 was when he was married.
In 1838, B. F. and Sally chose their older brother, John Riley (for whom my grandfather was named) as their guardian. The "age of discretion" for boys was 14, verifying his birth as in 1822.
Frances' husband's first name was Nathaniel, according to Mary Magdalene (Maggie) Wiles, widow of Orval Wiles, descendant of Frances and Nathaniel..
On June 3, 1850, the heirs of Isaac Williams deeded land on Fishing Creek in Lincoln County to Benjamin Floyd (the younger). $97 had been paid to Isaac during his lifetime. The list of heirs included a "BillyWilliams", who didn't sign the deed, and about whom we know absolutely nothing.
Now Isaac disappeared from the tax rolls in 1826, replaced by Sally(Sarah). He also was not in the Census of 1830, though Sally and the children were. Sally apparently died by 1834, as indicated by her father's will stating that she was deceased.
There appears to have been another Isaac Williams in the area a bit earlier. Our Williams family appears to have arrived about 1796-7, and there already was an Isaac Williams on the tax rolls in Lincoln County in1792.
I suspect that the James Williams who showed up in the 1796-8 Lincoln County tax records was Isaac's older brother, as listed in the John Williams/Alcey Lloyd family in the Joseph Lloyd letter of 1838. James Williams married Letitie Oliver 13 Dec 1797 in Lincoln County. He may have come with the family, stayed a short time, then moved on.
