Robert was 30-40, 1 male under 5, l male 5-10.
l female 30-40, 2 females under 5.
There were a Robert and Nathaniel Allison listed in the Cooper Co. Census on p. 195 in 1830, and
on page 205 an Ephraim Allison. They were possibly relatives who had migrated to Missouri before Robert did.CENSUS: 1850 US Census, MO, Moniteau Co., Dist. No. 58, Roll M432-407,
p. 13. Robert, 48; Mary, 47; John, 18; Martha, 14; Hannah, 13; Charles, 11; Nancy 9; Judith, 7; Rhoda, 4.DEATH: Grave Marker in Christian Family Cemetery on the Christian farm on the banks of Moreau Creek. Inscription: Robert A., Died Jan. 14, 1856, Age 65 years. Reported by Edna Mae Russell.
NICKNAME: (OR NAME KNOWN BY) - POLLY.
BIRTH & DEATH: Eunie Christian Stacy, CHRISTIAN OF CHARLES CITY (Fort Worth: Miran Publishers, 1982) p. 58. Dates also given in notes written by Edna Mae Russell, Great Grandfather, John F. She had collected information from aunts, her mother and other relatives.
MARRIAGE: Virginia A. Dodd, HENRY COUNTY, VIRGINIA, MARRIAGE BONDS, 1778-1849 (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1976) p. 1.
Dates are found in CEMETERIES OF MONITEAU CO., MISSOURI, p. 112; FHL Roll #1035919, item 3. (The birth date was estimated by subtracting 81 yr. and 4 months from the death date.) I HAD BIRTH AS 15 JUN 1820 FROM SOMEWHERE!
Married by Moses Chambers, M.G., in Moniteau Co.; Marriage Book 1, p. 302, Moniteau Co. Court House, California, MO.
It is possible that J.H. Allison married for a second time since his first wife, Margaret died in 1879. In Marriage Book 4, p. 364, Moniteau Co, a license was issued to J.H. Allison of Cole Co. and Louisa Morrow of Moniteau Co. on 19 May 1886. However, the license was not returned for filing, so it may never have taken place--no proof found by OMC.
CHRISTIAN OF CHARLES CITY by Eunie Christian Stacy, Fort Worth, Miran Publishers, p.58, does not agree with the information supplied by Edna Mae Russell of Florissant, MO, but it is felt that the information she gave about Robert Allison really referred to John H. Allison and his children Andrew (Drew) and Elizabeth (Lizzie).
Robert and Mary's son John H. and his wife had six children, but only two of them, Andrew J. and Elizabeth, lived to adulthood.
Elva Christian Benson, daughter of James R. Christian, wrote the following: "I can answer your query about Drew Allison and his family. Robert and Mary L. (Polly) Allison Andrew or Drew Allison Elizabeth "Lizzie" Allison married Isaac Large and lived in a 2-story house in Latham, Missouri. They had no children.
Drew Allison married Rosa Belle Clark (Belle). Children born to this union--Gilbert, Frank, Birdie & Edith. Edith was baptized and joined Pilot Grove Baptist Church when she was 18 years old. All the children died and are buried in Latham Cemetery beside their parents. Two died from typhoid and two from consumption. Drew also took consumption and died. He had a will and left one-half of his land to his sister, Lizzie Large.
Their home was on a parcel of land on a creek west of Latham. Drew was a good judge of mules and bought and sold mules. This is how he made his living. He raised corn and hay. Belle raised turkeys, geese and chickens for feathers. She said they made more money from turkeys than hogs. The boys trapped for fur.
I visited in the Large home once. She was dressed in a dark wool with the customary white apron. Her husband in white shirt and tie. They ate dinner at 5 p.m. We did not stay for dinner. She had a very soft voice and spoke carefully. I saw her once more at Belle's home in Latham. She spoke softly but clearly; used good English. I wonder where she was educated. Drew and Belle spoke the frontier language, used lots of profanity. But she told me when my father died there was a sale and the goods sold cheap. Wire at $2 a spool. She said Drew would not buy. He did not make money from orphans. He was a very good friend of my father, Jim Christian. Belle died from diabetes at about 70. She was treated by Dr. Robertson the family doctor who took care of the children. She joined the Latham Christian Church and was a faithful member till her death." (Written by Elva Benson or Clara Harmon, both daughters of James Redmond Christian.)
This name was listed in Stacy's CHRISTIAN OF CHARLES CITY, p. 58.
A Nancy Allison married a J. Williams 14 Sep 1871? by Shannon Akin, M.G. I don't know whether this is ours. Morgan Co. Marriages, 1833-1893, p. 50.
There is a record of a marriage of John C. Sims & Judith Allison, by James Edward Sims, M.G. on 17 Feb 1864. It is not known whether this might be our family. I don't have a source documentation.
There is a Rhoda E. Allison who married a John F. Scheurer in 1892. However, that would make her 46 at marriage, and that family were very short-lived.
