If indeed our descendancy is as we
believe, our Stover ancestor married the sister of Daniel Boone’s
Father. William Morrow married as his first wife Sarah Jay.
When she died he married second, Rachael Chambers. Chambers was
her married name as she was a widow. It is believed she was
married to William Chambers perhaps in North Carolina, though the first
name of her husband is not proven. She had 5 children with
William Chambers. After he died, she married William Morrow
perhaps in Tennessee.
Nor is her maiden name proven to be Stover as some believe. It is
thought her Father was Jeremiah Stover, descendant of Jacob Stover, the
immigrant ancestor who came to this land in 1710. It is
possible Jeremiah had 2 wives & perhaps Rachel was born to his
second wife. It is reported that both wives were native American
so perhaps that's where our native American heritage comes from.
Jeremiah is also not proven as being the son of Jacob Stover, son of
the immigrant Jacob Stover, but he is very likely a part of this family.
All these families tended to be in the same areas around the same
time. There is intermarriage among the families.
Circumstances would point to our being likely descendants in their
families, but there is no hard proof evidence. There may never be
solid proof. Family researchers have been researching these
families for years regarding the Stover & Chambers families.
Now, for what we know to be fact.
1. Rachael Chambers was married to
William Morrow as his second wife & they settled in Missouri before
it became a state. She had 4 children by William Morrow, among
them our Isaac Morrow.
2. The immigrant, Jacob Stover, married Sarah Boone the sister of Daniel Boone’s Father.
3. William Morrow had 12 children by his first wife, Sarah Jay, & 4
by his second wife, Rachel Chambers. A probate record in Macon Co., Mo.
filed by William J. Morrow regarding the estate of Sarah & Lydia
Morrow (sisters of Isaac) lists children of William & Sarah
Jay Morrow & children of William & Rachel Chambers Morrow, as
well as Rachel Chambers’ children by her previous marriage.
4. There are a number of Morrow/Chambers marriages. William
Morrow’s step-daughter (by Rachel & her first husband),
married Moses Chambers. Isaac Morrow’s daughter Martha
Jane, married David A.J. Chambers.
So maybe we are or maybe we aren’t related, but isn’t it fun to think about it?
