History
I found a composition that I wrote in the 8th grade on our class history. It goes like this :
I, Francine Partin, came to Buckeye on November 3, 1951, in the fourth grade. The teacher was Mrs. Kaiser, of whom we were very fond. The other pupils were Frances Ward, Linda Wandell, David Teague, Charles Shinn, and Louie Smith. We worked mostly on multiplication and book reports, as it was our first year with them. We also did a lot of studying in our "Early California" geography books and did many interesting projects connected with it. Once we went to an old Indian burial ground and dug up arrowheads and beads. It was a lot of fun. That year we had our last day picnic at Fred Wessel's, and we swam in his reservoir.
In the fifth grade, Mrs. Schneider was our teacher, and oh how we all loved her! That was the year we began being bothered with fractions, and we had our first real introduction to American history. At the first of the year the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh , and eighth grades were all in the same room, but finally a new room was built, and the third, fourth, and fifth moved into it. That year we had our picnic at the school and have done so ever since.
We moved back to the big room in the sixth grade with Mrs. Bliss as our teacher. She was very strict in a nice way, of course, and we all learned a lot from her. She taught us arithmetic so well that we could soon do fractions faster and better than the seventh and part of the eighth. That year the sixth grade helped with quite a bit of the graduation decorations.
In the seventh grade we had Mrs. Gardner, whom we all agreed was one of the sweetest persons any of us had ever known. That year we all had fun doing lots of creative writing and learning to do art with chalk. We did a lot of things that year. We went to the capitol building inThis year we are in the eighth grade, and our teacher is Mrs. Lively, who is very nice, lots of fun and quite young compared with the other teachers we have had. We seem to have spent more time on social studies this year than anything else, and we are doing an interesting study of fish in preparation for our trip to the hatchery. We are also going to visit the county court house.
During the years our class has grown, but now there are still only six of us: three boys and three girls. The best part is that are all very good friends.
The end.
